From receiving her first keyboard when 2 and starting formal piano lessons at 4½, music has always been a part of Mary’s life. Throughout high school she continued with piano and started picking up brass instruments to play with high school bands, the Ottawa Youth Orchestra and the Gloucester Community Concert Band.

Mary began teaching privately at the age of twelve. By the time she was studying piano in university, she had a private studio of more than 30 students and was directing the Ottawa River Youth Band. Receiving Bachelor’s degrees in Music and Education from the University of Ottawa, Mary graduated Summa Cum Laude.

In past years Mary has been an active trumpet player with the Parkdale Orchestra and the Kanata Symphony Orchestra.  She is the former assistant conductor of the Nepean Concert Band where she also guest plays percussion. She has been a full time music teacher with the Ottawa Catholic School Board since 2003. Her bands have brought home numerous awards including three national Gold standards from Musicfest Canada.

In the summer of 2014 Mary travelled to Southern Italy to work with the Grande Orchestra di Fiati Città di Grottole and the Concerto Bandistico Città Di Montalbano Jonico.

In her free time Mary is crazy about nerdy board games, gardening and cats.
